Day five came as a relaxing day. We stayed pretty low-key all day and just kind of recharged our batteries for the next leg of the trip. Here's how we did it today:
Our morning started almost exactly the same as yesterday. After breakfast, we headed back down to the beach. We are early risers, so we got there at 8:30. Not because we were trying to be first; just that we were all sitting around having eaten breakfast and gotten ready for the day and thought 'why not go now?' We were the 7th car in the parking lot, so there was a lot of beach to choose from. The downside to today's venture was the wind. It was kind of funny watching everyone out on their paddle boards because they all drifted to the same corner of the lake and couldn't get out without some serious effort. The kids still had fun paddling around and playing in the sand and water.
Yesterday when we were coming home from downtown Denver, Emmy said "Dad, I want to go somewhere fun." I replied, "Where would you like to go?" Her response was, "I don't know. Maybe Walmart. That's fun." When the kid wants to go to Walmart, who am I to say no? We needed to grab a couple things anyways, so it made for a good time to head down. The kids played around for a bit and we enjoyed the air conditioning. If you like flavored water, get these ones. They taste just like Fanta Orange, but with no sugar, calories, or caffeine. Total win.
After a dinner of hot dogs and brats cooked on the mini-grill, we went for a little bike ride/family walk. In the span of 25 minutes, we had four different bike crashes, one of them involving our two youngest running into each other because neither was looking where they were going. We decided to stop and walk down a short trail to a creek. Knowing the kids' aptitude for throwing rocks in water, we though this was a good substitute for riding bikes.
The kids started a movie during nap time and we let them finish it before bed. If you need a portable DVD drive like we do, use this one. It works great, and the cord embeds in the bottom, so you don't have to keep track of another cord. Tomorrow we get back to pulling the trailer, but it's only for two hours this time (we hope...). Until them, thanks for reading!!!
Today's Camper Hack:
Use a plastic drawer cart or stacking drawers for arranging kids clothes in the trailer. We have three 'closets', but only two drawers for clothes in the whole trailer - one by our master bed and one in the back by the kids. It wasn't enough for all of them, so voila! We have a way to organize all the small clothes for the small people!! The top two drawers are socks and underwear for Colby and Emmy (one drawer for each of them), and they each have a bottom drawer for shirts, pants, and shorts. Parker's stuff is hanging up and he is using the drawer for everything else. EASY way to get it all in here for two week's time and keep it organized.
